Pilates is a well-known exercise system that not only improves muscle strength, but also enhances ones physical and mental conditions. It commonly involves two methods, both of which use the principle of resistance for toning and strengthening the body. The first method uses mats, and the other uses Pilates machines. There are three types of machines used in Pilates workouts. These are the Cadillac, reformer, and wunda chair.
This Pilates equipment has a padded platform with a frame on its top area. The frame is attached by springs to different bars or straps.
To exercise using a Cadillac, sit on the platform with your body facing the roll-down bar and your spine in a balanced position. Also, make a 12- to 18-inch gap between your feet.
Next, hold the roll-down bar lightly. Pull your abdominal muscles tightly as you roll toward the bench.
Then inhale once when your body is completely aligned with the bench.
Afterwards, exhale while pulling your body up to the direction of the roll-down bar. See to it that you tightly pull in your abdominal muscles.
The Pilates reformer consists of a gliding platform attached by springs to a wooden or metal frame. The gliding platform can be pulled on ropes or pushed off from a non-moving bar. This machine uses the principle of resistance to make your abdominal muscles stronger.
How is it used for Pilates exercises? First, lie flat on the gliding platform and put your feet on the foot bar. Since the platform is near the foot bar, bend your knees at an angle of 90 degrees.
After that, stretch your legs to move the platform away from the foot bar. Breathe in and out gently while you’re doing this. Bend your knees slowly as well.
Pilates Wunda Chair
This Pilates machine has a small padded platform with springs attached to a bar. The wunda chair exercise mainly involves pushing the bar as you stand or sit on the bench.
When using the wunda chair, start with the basic movements while sitting on the bench. Gradually increase your moves before you can perform more challenging exercises.
This machine can be also used while standing up on the bench. Gently place your right foot at the base of the wunda chair and bend your knee. Using your left foot, push the pedal down. Raise the pedal once more with your left leg after you’ve lowered the pedal.
